Our Nursery Provision
Fledgling's Nursery is situated at the west end of the main school building in a refurbished, well-equipped, bright, and engaging unit. It is a self-contained space with a large outdoor area, which is shared with the Reception classes. Children have access to both the indoor and outdoor environments throughout the sessions, allowing them to explore, play, and learn freely.
Our Nursery is led by Mrs Jones, a qualified teacher with many years experience in the Early Years Foundation Stage. She works closely with a passionate team of EYFS practitioners to ensure all children develop a love of learning from an early age. We achieve this by providing a rich and varied curriculum, to encourage curiosity, creativity, and independence, and allow children to explore, experiment, and discover at their own pace. To find out more about our Nursery Storybook Curriculum, please visit the EYFS Curriculum page.
We value children's prior learning, both from previous settings and their experiences at home, and work in partnership with parents, carers, and other settings to ensure a smooth transition and the best possible start at St Luke's. This approach ensures each child feels happy and secure and reaches their full potential from their unique, individual starting points.
Children at Fledgling's Nursery are offered a rich timetable of learning opportunities, with a strong focus on sustained play, alongside planned activities that introduce key aspects of school life. We provide daily dedicated teaching times to introduce, revisit, and embed essential curriculum concepts, promoting early reading and mathematics. In Nursery, we follow the Little Wandle Foundation Phonics Programme and the White Rose Mathematics Nursery Programme.
Our curriculum is designed to recognise that all children develop at different rates and that each child's learning journey is unique. Through regular monitoring and assessment, any child requiring additional support is identified quickly and provided with appropriate interventions and additional learning opportunities. Please see the SEND page for further guidance. If you have any concerns about your child's development, please speak to Mrs Jones or our SENCo, Mrs Scott, during transition meetings.
We aim to ensure that every child has many positive, enjoyable, and engaging learning experiences during their time at St Luke's. Our EYFS team works closely together to ensure progression and continuity throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage, supporting a smooth transition from Nursery to Reception and helping each child feel confident, prepared, and excited for the next stage of their learning journey.
